Birmingham Schools Get Major Road Safety Upgrades

Six schools in Birmingham are slated to receive significant road safety enhancements through the Safer Schools Journeys initiative. These improvements include the installation of speed cushions, pedestrian islands, and double yellow lines. Schools like Colebourne Primary, Harborne Primary Annex, Broadmeadow Junior, The Olive School, Ninestiles, and Alston Primary are included.
The city council is implementing these changes as part of its Road Harm Reduction Strategy, which was adopted last year. This strategy has a clear objective: to eliminate all fatalities and serious injuries on Birmingham's roads. The Safer Schools Journeys program itself is funded by the Clean Air Zone.
Further measures involve narrowing road junctions and creating new crossing points. Some schools will also see bollards installed to manage parking. The public has until July 24 to provide feedback on these proposals via the Birmingham Be Heard website.
