Bihar's Archives Go Digital: Preserving History

Historically significant documents housed at Patna's Gulzarbagh Printing Press will undergo digitization as part of the Indian government's 'Gyan Bharatam' initiative. This decision follows a recent inspection of the press's archive sections, where old administrative files, rare manuscripts, and British-era records were assessed for preservation needs.

Officials were instructed to employ modern technologies for digitizing these fragile documents, thereby reducing the need for physical handling and preventing further deterioration. Scientific preservation methods, including improved storage and controlled handling, will be implemented to maintain the quality of paper and ink.

The digitization drive intends to establish a searchable database, supporting research and public access while safeguarding the original materials. The Bihar Museum has pledged its technical expertise and professional guidance to ensure the preservation efforts adhere to international standards, recognizing the Gulzarbagh collection's importance to Bihar's heritage.
