27 Oct
Summary
- Teacher showed R-rated movies to Grade 9 students.
- Racist meme and water gun use led to discipline.
- Teacher must complete courses on boundaries and professionalism.

Raymond Alejandro Rojas Peralta, a teacher in Surrey, faced disciplinary action for professional misconduct during the 2022-23 academic year. The B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation outlined instances of inappropriate behavior, including showing R-rated films such as 'Scream' and 'The Conjuring' to Grade 9 students. Additionally, Rojas Peralta shared a meme containing racial stereotypes and used a student's water gun to spray other students in the hallway.
Further misconduct involved Rojas Peralta attempting to discuss the school district's investigation with a student and making an inappropriate comment about that student to a peer. He received a letter of discipline in June 2023, a one-day suspension, and was required to take a course on creating a positive learning environment. An investigation by the BCCTR led to a consent agreement in July 2024, requiring him to complete another course on professional boundaries by April 5, 2027.
