First-Year Student Alleges Harassment by Seniors at Medical College

On November 15, 2025, a first-year student at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College filed an anonymous complaint with the University Grants Commission's anti-ragging helpline, alleging incidents of ragging by senior students. According to the complaint, the junior students were recently called to the hostel under the pretext of an introduction session, where they were made to stand for over two hours and instructed not to make eye contact with the seniors.

The complainant further stated that the juniors were required to speak in pure Hindi and remember the names of their seniors, as well as follow them on social media accounts. They were also allegedly threatened not to report the matter to the college authorities.

In response, the anti-ragging committee of the medical college, comprising members from various organizations, conducted a detailed inquiry on the same day. All first-year students were questioned, but none admitted to any wrongdoing by the seniors. The students were asked to provide written statements and were encouraged to speak up even afterwards.

The college authorities have now taken steps to address the issue, including installing complaint boxes at several points and putting up boards displaying anti-ragging cell numbers and other urgent contact information at various locations, including the hostel main gates.
