For a quarter-century, the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation has perpetuated the legacy of its namesake, a pilot lost on hijacked Flight 93 during the tragic events of September 11th. Created in 2002, the foundation's core mission is to fulfill Homer's passion for aviation by supporting aspiring pilots.
The foundation focuses on individuals aged 16 to 23, aiding them in earning their private pilot licenses. Over the past 25 years, this initiative has successfully helped 40 young people achieve their flying dreams through scholarships and partnerships with flight schools nationwide.
These scholarships, funded by various grants, donations, and United Airlines support, have enabled recipients to pursue careers as commercial pilots, military aviators, and flight instructors. Despite recipients being located across the country, the foundation fosters a strong sense of community, with many alumni remaining connected to the organization and each other.
