Hundreds of homes in Falmouth are facing evacuation as experts work to safely deal with a suspected unexploded World War Two bomb. The device, believed to be a 250lb American ordnance, was found on Monday near Falmouth Docks. An exclusion zone is currently in effect, which expanded on Wednesday, impacting an estimated 339 homes.
Residents within the revised 755m cordon were instructed to evacuate by 09:00 BST on Wednesday. Emergency services, including military bomb disposal experts, are on site to manage the situation. Train services between Falmouth Town and Falmouth Docks have been suspended as a safety measure.
Naval bomb disposal experts are assessing the "air-dropped bomb," with options including a controlled explosion being considered. While the device is described as large, it is not as significant as some previously found in Plymouth. Authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure public safety and resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible.
