2 Feb
Summary
- Anna Rachfal suffered horrific scalp injury in September 2019.
- The accident resulted in loss of skin, muscles, hair, and one ear.
- Her employer was fined £62,334, and she later received a seven-figure settlement.

In September 2019, Anna Rachfal, then 29, endured a life-altering workplace accident in Coventry. Her hair became entangled in a rotating drill, causing her scalp to be ripped away, along with one ear and both eyebrows. She required emergency surgery and extensive skin grafts.
Anna, who had moved to the UK from Poland in 2018, faced long-term consequences including hearing loss, nerve pain, and PTSD. Her employer, P&D Engineering LTD, was fined £62,334 in August 2021 for safety breaches. Anna was later fired but pursued a civil suit.
By April 2025, Anna was awarded an undisclosed seven-figure settlement sum. She has since married her partner, Rad, and they have two young children. However, the trauma persists, with Anna noting her injuries sometimes make it difficult for her children to recognize her when she wears different wigs.
