Woman's Death: Elephant Attack or Fatal Fall?
16 Feb
Summary
- Woman died returning home on a motorcycle with her sons.
- Forest department awaiting postmortem to confirm cause of death.
- Commuters urged to travel with caution in forest areas.

A 45-year-old woman, Munni Devi, died on the Bichhiya-Mihipurwa road in Lakhimpur Kheri district, with authorities awaiting a postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. She was traveling with her two sons when their motorcycle reportedly slowed down and an incident occurred between Nishangarh and Bichhiya.
Local residents provided immediate medical attention, but Munni Devi was declared dead, while her sons sustained injuries. Officials from the Forest Department visited the scene and indicated that the initial examination of the motorcycle and the victim's body does not conclusively point to a tusker attack. Typical signs of severe bone crushing and lung punctures, often seen in elephant attacks, were not apparent.
The Forest Department is also seeking information from the doctor who treated the victim prior to the incident. Compensation can only be processed once the cause of death is officially confirmed. Authorities are urging commuters to exercise significant caution when traveling through forest areas, particularly those known for elephant movement.
