A shocking incident occurred early on Monday morning when Shobha Vijay Waghmare, a 32-year-old woman, was fatally attacked by a pack of 10 to 12 stray dogs. The attack took place beneath a flyover near Ambethan Chowk as Waghmare was passing by. She attempted to defend herself but was overwhelmed by the aggressive animals.
The entire brutal assault was captured on nearby CCTV cameras, which later confirmed the horrifying nature of the event. Police reported that the dogs inflicted numerous deep wounds on her hands, legs, face, and neck over a period of nearly 15 minutes, leading to fatal blood loss. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Following the discovery of her body, local residents initially had other suspicions, but the CCTV evidence clarified that stray dogs were responsible. The incident has ignited fear in Chakan, with frequent complaints about stray dogs previously lodged. Residents are now demanding immediate action from the municipal council to control the stray dog population and implement the Animal Birth Control programme.
