Woman Fractures Shoulder Falling Into Recycling Bin

A woman has fractured her shoulder in an accident involving a recycling bin. The incident happened on March 8 when the 63-year-old resident was cleaning the bin on her driveway. As she reached into the receptacle, its wheels gave way, causing her to fall inside and sustain a shoulder fracture.

Paramedics attended to the injured woman, cutting her jumper to access the injury before transporting her to the hospital. An X-ray confirmed the fracture, and she was sent home with a sling. The woman expressed her reluctance to approach the bin again due to the painful experience.

This event coincides with the upcoming implementation of the government's Simpler Recycling policy on March 31. This nationwide initiative aims to standardize waste collection, providing households with four designated bins for different waste types. However, the new policy also stipulates that 39 specific items are prohibited from recycling bins, with potential fines for non-compliance.
