Tragedy struck late Thursday on the outskirts of Davanagere when a 38-year-old woman, Anita Halesh, was fatally attacked by two Rottweilers. The victim was walking home around 11:30 PM when the dogs, reportedly released near the village entrance by unknown individuals arriving in an autorickshaw, descended upon her. She sustained severe injuries, with wounds reported in nearly 50 places across her body, including her legs, neck, face, and head.
Despite the immediate efforts of villagers to rush her to a private hospital in Davanagere, her condition was too critical. She tragically died en route to a hospital in Bengaluru. The circumstances surrounding the dog attack have raised serious suspicions, with the victim's brother filing a complaint and demanding a thorough investigation into potential foul play.
Residents later captured the dogs, and CCTV footage captured the autorickshaw and the dogs being released near the village. Davanagere Rural police have registered an FIR based on the footage and the complaint. The community is urging authorities to charge those responsible for abandoning the dogs with murder.
