A devastating incident occurred on Friday afternoon in Withernsea, East Yorkshire, resulting in two fatalities and one person still missing. The events began when a teenage girl was swept out to sea from Central Promenade. Several individuals, including locals and a cafe staff member, attempted to rescue her, with one person throwing a life ring. Tragically, a 67-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.
Later that evening, a second body was recovered. Searches for a third missing individual commenced on Saturday, involving multiple agencies such as HM Coastguard, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and Humberside Fire and Rescue. Rescue helicopters and lifeboats were deployed, though local charity Hornsea Inshore Rescue reported difficulties launching due to three-meter waves and horrendous conditions.
