Tragic Crash Claims Three Lives at Westwood Grocery Store
10 Feb
Summary
- Three individuals, including two employees and one customer, lost their lives.
- An elderly driver's vehicle collided with a 99 Ranch Market.
- Authorities are investigating a potential medical issue as the cause.
Three lives were tragically lost last week when a vehicle slammed into a 99 Ranch Market in Westwood. The victims have been identified as two employees of the store and one customer. Leonel Mateo, 52, Zih Dao, 28, and Deris Renoj, 42, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred when an elderly female driver reportedly struck a bicyclist before continuing on and crashing into the grocery store. Six other individuals sustained injuries, with four transported to the hospital in various conditions. Authorities do not believe the incident was intentional and are exploring whether a medical issue caused the driver to lose control.
Community members gathered outside the market to pay their respects, leaving flowers and candles. The 99 Ranch Market has expressed its sorrow and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The Westwood store will remain closed during this period.
