A person walking two dogs was rescued on Saturday after becoming stranded on a sandbar at West Wittering Beach. The tide came in quickly, cutting off their escape route to the shore.
Rescuers from the Selsey Coastguard Team were alerted, and the Hayling Lifeboat was dispatched to the scene. The lifeboat crew successfully brought the stranded individual and their dogs safely back to shore. The person was reported to be unharmed, aside from feeling cold.
Coastguard officials emphasized the dangers of the sandbars at West Wittering, noting that they extend far out at low tide. They warned that the tide can race in rapidly, creating strong currents that make it easy to get trapped. Beachgoers were advised to check tide times, continually monitor their surroundings, and ensure they have a phone in case of emergency.
