Water Park Owner Threatens To Drain Lake Over Trespassers
6 Mar
Summary
- Owner will drain lake if night trespassers continue swimming.
- Water temperature is eight degrees Celsius, posing drowning risk.
- Security measures include £30,000 fencing and CCTV.

A water park owner has issued an ultimatum to stop trespassers from swimming in the lake at night or he will drain it entirely. Pete Boyle, owner of Let's Go Hydro, expressed deep concern over the safety of young people entering the facility after dark and swimming in the dangerously cold water. He stated that the risk of a drowning incident is a constant worry.
Recent efforts to secure the park include £30,000 spent on new fencing and the installation of CCTV. However, Boyle noted that trespassers have been entering the lake for the past three weekends, often between 8 PM and midnight. He warned that the water temperature, measured at eight degrees Celsius, means individuals could only survive for about eight minutes in such conditions without safety gear.
Local officials, including Alliance Party MLA Kate Nicholl and councillors Daniel Basset and John Gallon, have echoed Boyle's concerns. They are urging young people to be sensible and parents to be vigilant, highlighting the rapid escalation from a seemingly fun situation to one of extreme danger. Authorities are working with community bodies to address the ongoing incidents.
