Watch Duty App Adds Flood Alerts Nationwide
9 Jun
Summary
- Watch Duty app now includes flood alerts across the nation.
- Users can customize alerts for wildfires, floods, or both.
- The app offers live reporting on critical flood incidents.

The widely-used Watch Duty app has significantly expanded its public safety features by adding flood alerts available nationwide. This expansion, effective as of Monday, means users will see blue flood icons on their maps, complementing the existing red wildfire markers. This enhancement comes at no additional cost to users.
Existing Watch Duty users can enable the new flood coverage by exploring "Flood Layers" in the app's settings. They have the flexibility to select alerts for general wildfires, weather, floods, or a combination of all categories. Users can further refine their flood alerts to include watches, warnings, observed water levels, or only declared FEMA flood hazard warnings.
The app will also provide live reporting on specific flood incidents that pose an immediate danger to life, such as breaches of dams or levees, and the collapse of bridges. This development follows an early 2026 partnership with Ring, integrating Watch Duty notifications into the Ring Neighbors app and enabling optional AI-driven fire detection via Ring cameras.
