On Saturday morning, a residence near Waleska was completely destroyed by a significant fire, according to Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services. Fire crews responded to the structure fire on Fincher Road and encountered the home engulfed in flames.
Efforts were immediately directed towards containing the blaze and safeguarding adjacent properties. Crucially, the safety of both human and animal occupants was prioritized. A pony was safely evacuated from a nearby paddock, and a horse in the backyard was found to be unharmed.
Tragically, a pet lizard and a pet snake perished in the fire. Fortunately, no human injuries were reported. Investigations by officials concluded that the accidental fire originated from a wood-burning stove within the home.
