A Vons grocery store in Granada Hills allegedly remained open for hours with a deceased customer's body in an aisle following a medical emergency on July 5. A supervisor reported that after a customer suffered a fatal medical event in the bakery section, she and another employee attempted CPR.
Despite the customer's death, the supervisor stated that corporate managers directed her to use carts and umbrellas to conceal the body. The family of the deceased reportedly waited for four hours until a mortuary arrived to remove their loved one from the premises.
The union representing the workers has reached out to the parent company, Albertsons, seeking clarification on protocols for such tragic incidents. They urged the company to revise its emergency policies to prevent similar occurrences and address concerns about worker welfare and customer dignity.
