A tragic incident occurred during the Cumming Christmas parade when a volunteer directing traffic was fatally struck by a vehicle on Saturday night. The victim, identified as Rob Muth, was stationed at the intersection of Castleberry Road and Buford Dam Road. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by fellow volunteers and deputies, Muth passed away surrounded by family on Sunday morning at North Fulton Hospital.
Muth was a respected figure, having served 21 years as a sergeant with the Boca Raton Police Department before his retirement. He continued his service as a volunteer with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, contributing to various divisions including Judicial Operations, Citizens Helping in Policing (CHIPs), and Criminal Investigations since January 2022.
Cumming police confirmed the involved driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, which is expected to result in charges. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office expressed deep sorrow and asked the community to keep Muth's family, friends, and fellow volunteers in their thoughts, emphasizing that his legacy of service will not be forgotten.
