12 Jul
Summary
- A 4.5 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Bay of Bengal early Sunday.
- Mild tremors were felt in several parts of Visakhapatnam city.
- No casualties or property damage were reported due to the earthquake.

Early on Sunday morning, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake originating in the Bay of Bengal sent tremors through parts of Visakhapatnam and neighboring districts in Andhra Pradesh. The seismic event, which occurred at approximately 5:05 am IST, caused mild shaking in various areas of the coastal city, such as Gajuwaka, Mangalapalem, and MVP colony.
The earthquake's epicentre was located 10 km deep in the Bay of Bengal, about 225 km off the Kakinada coast. Experts have characterized it as a shallow earthquake, noting that the region is considered tectonically stable and that such tremors are due to minor structural adjustments. Significantly, no injuries or damage to property have been reported.
Tremors were also felt in Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, and Konaseema districts. This event follows a similar mild earthquake that affected Visakhapatnam and Alluri Sitharamaraju districts in November of the previous year.
