Viking Village Rebuilds After Storm Wreckage
7 Feb
Summary
- A recent storm damaged two Viking village buildings, rendering them unsafe.
- The group aims to raise £1,300 for materials to repair the settlement.
- Repairs will be completed by hand using traditional 11th Century methods.

A replica Viking village in Dudley, central to a re-enactment group's educational and community work, suffered significant damage during a recent storm. High winds caused a large tree to fall, destroying the roof of one hand-built dwelling and compromising the beams of another. These structures were crafted using traditional 11th Century methods.
The group, known as Hrafn Vaeringi, is now seeking to raise £1,300 to purchase the necessary materials for repairs. Members, who hold meetings in Walsall, Telford, and Doncaster, will be carrying out the rebuilding work themselves during their spare time.
This fundraising effort is crucial for the village, which serves as a vital base for re-enactment activities, local education, and craftsmanship. The damage caused widespread disappointment, but the community has rallied, with the landowner assisting in clearing the fallen tree. Repairs are anticipated to take several months to complete.
