At least four people perished and four remain unaccounted for following a severe flash flood that inundated a village in Vietnam's northern Lai Chau province. The incident occurred early Friday after several days of persistent heavy rains across the region.
Seven individuals sustained injuries during the flood in Muong Than village. Images depicted the aftermath, with red mud and floodwaters covering the landscape and debris littering damaged infrastructure. The disaster management agency reported that landslides and flash floods triggered by the downpours have significantly impacted roads, power grids, and hundreds of homes.
Northern Vietnam is susceptible to natural disasters, particularly floods, during its rainy season from July to September. Last year, such events claimed nearly 500 lives nationwide. Authorities forecast continued heavy rainfall, with up to 250 millimeters expected on Saturday, warning of further risks of flash floods and landslides.
