Initial rescue attempts were slow, prompting Palacios and relatives of other trapped individuals to block roads to demand assistance. This led to the arrival of civil defense, firefighters, and volunteers, who worked tirelessly by hand.
Later, heavy machinery arrived, significantly speeding up the debris removal. Foreign aid, including 25 Mexican soldiers with sniffer dogs, joined the search. Despite their efforts, including six hours of work after Jonathan's voice was heard, he was not successfully rescued by Saturday.
