Back-to-back earthquakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck Venezuela overnight on Wednesday, June 24. These seismic events, described as a severe doublet sequence, have tragically claimed the lives of at least 1,430 people, with over 2,300 others injured. The devastating quakes have also left more than 3,000 residents without homes.
Among those lost were Yanina Maranella and her two children, Aarón and Ainhoa Trejo, the wife and offspring of Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo. Their bodies were found after a 72-hour search effort. In a separate incident, Andrea Bello, wife of soccer player Hector Bello, died while protecting their one-year-old daughter from the collapsing structures.
