Ganga Rises: Varanasi Ghats Submerged by Heavy Rains

Heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas has led to a significant rise in the Ganga River's water level in Varanasi. As of Monday, the river's flow is below the warning level, but several idols and small temples situated along the ghats have begun to submerge. This situation has prompted the district administration to increase flood preparedness measures.

Recent rainfall in Ballia and Ghazipur has contributed to the rising water levels in those districts. The swollen Ganga has already reached the aarti platform at Dashashwamedh Ghat, submerging religious idols. Concerns are growing among residents in low-lying areas due to the influx of water hyacinth.

Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and have advised people to avoid deep water and riverbanks. Arrangements are being made to supply relief materials and relocate residents if necessary. The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall in the hills and plains, indicating a potential further increase in the Ganga's water level. The meteorological department has warned of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Uttar Pradesh until July 22. Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during adverse weather conditions.
