In Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district, families of 508 farmers received more than Rs 21 crore in financial aid during the 2025-26 financial year. This support comes from the Chief Minister's Farmer Accident Welfare Scheme, designed to assist those who have lost a primary breadwinner. The scheme offers financial aid of up to Rs 5 lakh for cases of death or permanent disability resulting from accidents.
Initially focused on landholding farmers, the scheme's coverage has been significantly broadened. It now includes sharecroppers, lessees, and landless agricultural labourers, ensuring a wider net of support for those within the farming community. Several families in the Jaswantnagar assembly constituency have reported that the financial assistance provided much-needed relief after facing severe financial hardship.
Two families shared their experiences: Prem Singh's family received Rs 5 lakh four months after his road accident death. Similarly, Ramnarayan Sharma's family obtained Rs 5 lakh within six months of his passing due to a road accident. These disbursements underscore the scheme's impact in providing timely financial security.
