28 Apr
Summary
- A huge fire destroyed an MOT centre and forced a supermarket evacuation.
- Firefighters battled the blaze through the night to prevent spread to a petrol station.
- A mechanic lost all his tools in the fire and faces a crowdfunding appeal.

A significant fire erupted in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, on Monday evening, completely destroying a vehicle servicing and MOT centre. The intense blaze prompted the evacuation of a nearby Tesco superstore and saw flames reportedly reaching heights of 60 feet.
Fire crews were dispatched promptly, with six engines and a high-reach platform tackling the inferno. They worked diligently through the night to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighbouring petrol station and the adjacent supermarket. The fire was fully extinguished by Tuesday morning.
One individual was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but thankfully, no other serious injuries were reported. Police Scotland indicated that the fire was not considered to be deliberate.
The incident has had a personal impact, with a crowdfunding appeal initiated for a mechanic whose extensive tool collection, accumulated over two decades, was destroyed in the fire. The mechanic not only lost his livelihood but also valuable equipment.
