- Hanoi streets heavily flooded, power outages reported

On September 30, 2025, the Vietnamese government reported that Typhoon Bualoi has claimed 19 lives, with another 21 people still unaccounted for, making it the most devastating storm to hit the country this year. The powerful typhoon made landfall in northern central Vietnam on Monday, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and massive sea swells.
Prior to striking Vietnam, Bualoi had already claimed at least 10 lives in the Philippines last week. In Vietnam, the storm has left a trail of destruction, with over 100,000 houses damaged, mostly in the Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. More than 10,000 hectares of rice and other crops have also been inundated by the floodwaters.
The capital city of Hanoi has been particularly hard hit, with streets heavily flooded and traffic paralyzed in many downtown areas. Persistent downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning have caused widespread power outages. Several villages in northern central Vietnam remain submerged, with no access to roads or electricity.
Authorities have warned of an ongoing risk of landslides and flash flooding as rainfall in the region has exceeded 300 millimeters over the past 24 hours. The government is now focused on rescue and relief efforts, as well as assessing the full extent of the damage caused by this devastating typhoon.
