Tragedy struck late Thursday night in Perambalur district as two men were electrocuted during a trial run for a temple chariot festival. The incident occurred in Nannai village, where preparations were underway for the Aadi Velli festival at the Ayyanar temple.

P Annadurai and G Paramasivam, both 42 years old, were involved in pulling a 20-foot chariot decorated for the upcoming procession. As the chariot moved along a tank bund, its upper section accidentally made contact with an overhead high-tension cable. Both men were immediately electrocuted and lost consciousness.

Despite immediate efforts by villagers to remove them from the chariot and rush them to Perambalur government hospital, doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival. The Kunnam police have initiated a case to investigate the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident.
