Two friends from Cwmbran, Wales, have died following a tragic incident in Lanzarote. Darren Silcox, 56, and Nicholas Thomas, 54, fell from a balcony at the Galeon Playa Apartments in Costa Teguise. The incident occurred in the early hours of October 2025, after the pair had been out for the evening. They plunged into an atrium stairwell when a wooden bannister reportedly collapsed.
Mr. Silcox was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic brain injury, skull fractures, and lacerations. Mr. Thomas was flown back to the UK for treatment and later died in hospital nearly 10 months after the fall. An inquest into their deaths is ongoing. Spain's Civil Guard has launched an investigation into whether poor upkeep or insufficient safety measures contributed to the fatal accident.
