Ashram School Tragedy: 5 Students on Joyride End in Death

Tragedy struck early Monday morning near Jawhar when a motorcycle carrying five students from the Gagangiri Ashram School in Hirdpada skidded near a river ghat. The students, who were in Classes 9 to 12, had allegedly left the hostel without permission on Sunday night to attend Navratri celebrations. They reportedly obtained the motorcycle by falsely claiming a fellow student was ill.

The group was returning to the school between 2:30 am and 3:00 am when the accident occurred at a downhill bend. Sumit Gimbal, 18, died at the scene, while Pritam Potinda, 15, passed away during treatment. The three injured students were initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Nashik for further care and are now in stable condition. In response to the incident, the project officer of the Integrated Tribal Development Project in Jawhar initiated an inquiry.

The school management has suspended the headmaster, superintendent, and watchman, and show-cause notices have been issued to the managing trust and other responsible individuals by the tribal development department.
