In a disturbing turn of events, Disney World and its surrounding resorts have been the site of multiple guest deaths and emergencies in October 2025. Just last week, the Orange County Medical Examiner's office confirmed that two guests, Matthew Cohn and Summer Equitz, died by suicide at the Contemporary Resort near the Magic Kingdom.
Cohn passed away on October 23rd, while Equitz's death occurred earlier in the month. Both incidents involved "multiple traumatic injuries" according to the medical examiner. Separately, a woman in her 60s was transported to a local hospital after riding the Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. She was later pronounced deceased.
The tragedies extend beyond Disney's properties as well. In September, a 32-year-old man, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, died while riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at Universal's Epic Universe in Orlando. An investigation deemed the attraction to be in proper working order, and it reopened to the public on October 4th.
