- Archana jumped into well after dispute with lover, rescue attempt ended in tragedy
- Sivakrishna's intoxication caused well wall to collapse, trapping all three

Last month, a tragic incident occurred in Kollam, Kerala, where a fire and rescue officer, a woman, and a bystander were killed when a well collapsed during a rescue attempt. According to the police, the incident took place around 1 am on October 12, 2025.
The deceased have been identified as fire and rescue officer Sony S Kumar (36), Archana M (34) of Anakottoor West, and Sivakrishna S (23) of Kodungalloor, Thrissur. Archana had jumped into the well in the compound of her house following a dispute with her lover. Sivakrishna, who was reportedly intoxicated, alerted the fire station, and when the rescue team arrived, Archana was still alive.
As firefighter Sony descended into the well with a rope tied around his waist to bring Archana up, Sivakrishna leaned against the well wall while shining a flashlight inside, accidentally causing the wall to collapse. The structure gave way, and Sivakrishna, along with debris, fell into the well, trapping all three inside. Sony was quickly pulled up using the rope, but he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Sivakrishna and Archana were later pulled out, but both were declared dead on arrival.
The police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for unnatural death. The bodies of Sony and Archana have been handed over to their relatives, while Sivakrishna's postmortem will be conducted on Tuesday.
