On Saturday, November 12th, 2025, a horrific house fire in Sanson, New Zealand took the lives of three young children and their father. Emergency services raced to the scene, but were unable to save the home or the four occupants trapped inside.
The bodies of two children, Goldie and August, were recovered on Sunday, along with a man believed to be their father. Efforts to locate the body of the third child, Hugo, continue as the investigation enters its third day.
The small, close-knit community of Sanson, with a population of just 660, has rallied around the children's grieving mother, who has lost everything. It is understood that she and the children's father were in the process of separating.
Police and forensic officers have returned to the scene to conduct a "meticulous and thorough" examination, as they investigate the possibility of a suspected murder-suicide. The four deaths will be referred to the coroner.
The community has come together to support the mother, with an online fundraiser already raising almost $160,000 in just two days. "Our dear friend has suffered the sudden, unbearable loss of her three beloved children," her friends wrote. "They were the light and love of her life, and her entire world has been shattered."
