Toyota HiLux Recall: Sudden Steering Loss Hazard
8 Apr
Summary
- Over 13,000 Toyota HiLux 2025-2026 models recalled globally.
- Issue involves installation error leading to sudden power steering loss.
- Defect could increase crash risk, potentially causing death.

A significant recall has been issued for more than 13,000 Toyota HiLux models manufactured between August 28, 2025, and February 24, 2026. This recall specifically affects vehicles fitted with a Toyota Genuine bull bar or nudge bar combined with a light bar.
The critical issue stems from an installation error related to the electric power steering (EPS) system. A misaligned ground (earth) terminal, occurring during accessory fitting, is the cause, not a factory wiring fault. This misalignment can lead to an unexpected and complete loss of power steering assistance while driving.
Toyota warns that this loss of assistance occurs without any prior warning lights or indicators, making the vehicle extremely difficult to control. The defect poses a serious risk of increasing crash incidents, with the potential for severe injury or death. Toyota is actively contacting affected owners to schedule a free inspection and repair at a dealership to rectify the issue.
