Two tornadoes touched down in central New York on Wednesday evening, according to new information released by the National Weather Service. The strongest, an EF2 tornado, made landfall in the town of Fayette with recorded wind speeds of 115 mph.
This EF2 tornado traversed approximately 7 miles, beginning south of Rose Hill and concluding south of Canoga Springs. Concurrently, an EF1 tornado, packing 95 mph winds, struck Waterloo, tracking into the village before ending its path in Seneca Falls over a distance of 6 to 7 miles.
In addition to the twisters, the National Weather Service documented straight-line wind damage in areas surrounding the tornado paths. A reporting site in Seneca Falls recorded hurricane-force winds gusting up to 76 mph. Further analysis of these tornado events is expected on Friday.
