Man Dies After Leaping Into Tiger Enclosure

A tragic incident occurred at Yorkshire Wildlife Park when a man jumped into the enclosure of an Amur tiger named Altai. Visitors witnessed the man, reportedly wearing AirPods and dancing, before he climbed over the barriers and entered the tiger's habitat around 1:30 PM on Saturday. Attempts were made by onlookers to prevent him from entering the enclosure.

Once inside, the man knelt before the tiger and then began to yell at the animal. The tiger subsequently attacked him, causing fatal injuries. Park staff responded quickly, firing shots to deter the tiger. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park has stated that Altai the tiger will not be euthanized as a result of the incident. The park expressed condolences to the man's family and confirmed the tiger is safe and well. The park closed on Monday to facilitate ongoing investigations into the events.

Altai, a male Siberian tiger, arrived at the park in March 2025 from Norward with the intention of mating with the park's female tiger. He was described as a calm and receptive animal upon his arrival.
