Tragically, Jackson Duke, 17, and Luke Etheridge and Zara Shaw, both 16, were recovered from the river. Jackson and Luke were from Sunderland, while Zara was from Houghton-le-Spring. Their families have posted heartfelt tributes.

A 17-year-old male managed to escape the sinking car and was arrested at the scene. He is currently in hospital receiving treatment for non-serious injuries and remains in police custody.
