Three individuals tragically lost their lives when a single-engine Cessna aircraft plunged into the ocean at Long Bay near Goolwa South, South Australia, on Friday afternoon. Emergency services were dispatched to the location around 4:20 PM following reports of the crash.
The deceased include the 57-year-old pilot from Morphett Vale, an 18-year-old from Freeling, and a 19-year-old from Pasadena. Police confirmed the fatalities on Saturday morning. South Australian authorities expressed gratitude to all emergency services and commercial operators involved in the extensive search and retrieval operations.
In a separate incident on the same Friday, another small plane crashed near Normanton in Queensland. Access to this second crash site, located approximately 800 meters west of the Normanton airport, has been difficult for emergency responders, leaving the condition of those on board unknown.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is thoroughly investigating both aviation incidents. Safety investigators were scheduled to arrive at the Goolwa South crash site on Saturday to examine the wreckage, interview witnesses, and collect flight data. The ATSB is also gathering further information regarding the Normanton crash.
