A primary school in Telford was evacuated on Tuesday lunchtime following a significant fuel tanker fire on Marlborough Way. The fire, which sent burning fuel down the street, necessitated the removal of approximately 450 to 500 children, aged two to 11, from the school premises.
The head teacher, Rachel Cook, expressed deep gratitude for the community's swift and compassionate response. Residents came forward with blankets and offered emotional support, while local businesses and facilities, including a supermarket, pub, and gym, opened their doors to provide shelter for the children and staff.
The school has since reopened on Wednesday morning. Staff are prepared to address the incident with students through reassuring classroom discussions. The fire required extensive efforts from nine fire engines and took five hours to extinguish, with the cause still under investigation by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
