A Tejas fighter jet operated by the Indian Air Force experienced a fatal crash on Friday during the Dubai Air Show. The pilot onboard sustained fatal injuries when the aircraft descended at a low altitude around 2:15 pm. Witness accounts and footage confirmed the incident, which saw black smoke billowing from the crash site.
This unfortunate event marks the second recorded crash of the Tejas fighter jet. The aircraft, which utilizes General Electric engines, had previously been involved in an accident during an exercise in India in 2024. The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is a key component of India's defense strategy.
Designed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, the Tejas is intended to bolster India's fighter fleet amidst regional military expansions. Despite recent contracts for new jets, the Tejas program has faced delivery delays, primarily due to import dependencies for its engines.
