A tragic accident claimed the life of 13-year-old Maci Williams on February 27 last year. While at Lower Stoneham Farm in Lewes, East Sussex, Maci was helping to lead horses from a paddock to the barn.
A horse named Amir became spooked, likely due to mares in season, and jumped his fence. As the group of horses was being led back, Amir kicked out, triggering a reaction in other horses. Tragically, Maci was struck in the head by a kick.
Maci collapsed and her mother immediately attempted resuscitation. Paramedics and the air ambulance were called, and she was flown to King's College Hospital in London. Sadly, her injuries were deemed unsurvivable.
