Teenager Critically Injured in Construction Pipe Accident

A teenage construction worker is fighting for his life following a serious incident at a newbuild estate in County Durham. The 17-year-old sustained critical head and neck injuries when a heavy concrete pipe toppled onto him while he was working.
Emergency services were called to Bellway's Sniperley Park DH1 homes development, where groundworks were being carried out by Esh Group, shortly before 1pm on Thursday, April 16. The injured worker was provided with first aid at the scene before being transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he remains in serious condition.
Durham Police, alongside the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. Both Bellway and Esh Group have stated they are cooperating fully with the ongoing enquiries and have offered their thoughts to the injured worker and his family.
