Teenage Boy Drowns in Krishna River Canal Tragedy

On Monday, October 16th, 2025, a 16-year-old boy tragically drowned in the left bank canal of the Krishna River in Vijayapura, Karnataka. Ravi Manjunath Jaggal, a resident of Nainegali village in Bagalkot, had gone to the canal near the Almatti Parvati Katta bridge to wash bed sheets.
According to eyewitnesses, Jaggal slipped and fell into the swift-moving canal, being swept away by the strong current. Immediately, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services in Basavan Bagewadi and Muddebihal, along with local fishermen, launched a search operation that continued late into the night.
The search efforts finally paid off on Tuesday morning when Jaggal's body was traced and recovered. Nidagundi police have registered a case, confirming that the deceased was a Class 10 student at Rao Bahaddur Pa Gu Halakatti High School in Almatti.
Nidagundi circle police inspector Sharanagouda Goudar and PSI Shivanand Patil visited the scene and reviewed the situation. The tragic incident has left the community in shock, with authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of the young student.
