A 14-year-old boy, Ryley Kade Ziebell, has tragically died after his electric bike collided with a Landcruiser in Diamond Creek, north Melbourne. The incident occurred on Monday night, leaving his family devastated. Ryley was reportedly just hundreds of metres from his home at the time of the crash.
Known for his love of basketball and his e-bike, Ryley is remembered by his girlfriend as a "beautiful natured boy" and "one of the best people I've ever met." His school, St Helena Secondary College, expressed deep sadness, bringing Year Nine classmates home early from a camp. A GoFundMe page set up to support his family quickly raised nearly $10,000 from 192 donors within its first five hours.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision. The 22-year-old driver of the Landcruiser was interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries. The community has been urged to provide any information or footage to Crime Stoppers to assist the investigation.
