A 14-year-old boy lost his life after entering the water at a dock in east London on Monday evening. The London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police were alerted at approximately 18:50 BST and launched a search operation in the Millwall Outer Dock, located near East Ferry Road.
Tragically, the boy's body was recovered from the dock around 22:30 BST. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Police confirmed that his family has been informed of the heartbreaking news.
Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter emphasized the dangers of open water, stating, "As the warm weather continues, I would urge everyone to remember that open water can present serious dangers." This sentiment was echoed by the London Fire Brigade, which had previously urged Londoners, particularly children, to exercise extreme caution in the capital's waterways during hot weather. Since 2020, over 100 accidental drownings have been recorded across London.
