Temecula Teen Driver Dies in Fatal Crash

A devastating collision in Temecula claimed the life of a 16-year-old driver, Landen Ried, on Thursday night. The incident occurred shortly after 8:20 p.m. near the intersection of Margarita Road and Pio Pico Road when the vehicle he was driving lost control and struck a telephone pole.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Office performed life-saving measures, but Ried was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other teenagers who were passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries and were hospitalized. As of Friday morning, their conditions were reported as stable.
Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office has requested anyone with information or who may have witnessed the event to contact them. Margarita Road was closed for several hours during the investigation.
Temecula Valley Unified School District officials confirmed that Ried was a 10th grader at Susan Nelson High School and previously attended Temecula Valley High School. The district is providing grief counseling services to students affected by the tragedy.
