A much-loved 16-year-old boy tragically died after collapsing at Barry Island Pleasure Park. Taha Ali Soomro was pronounced dead at the scene on May 23, following a suspected cardiac arrest and seizure. Paramedics battled to save his life but were unsuccessful.
An inquest has been formally opened into Taha's sudden death by the Pontypridd Coroner's Court. However, a post-mortem examination conducted subsequently did not establish a definitive cause of death, leaving the circumstances surrounding his collapse unexplained.
South Wales Police investigated the incident and briefly arrested a 15-year-old on suspicion of assault, who was later released on bail. Taha was a student at Fitzalan High School in Cardiff, where tributes have poured in from the school community. The school is providing support to students and staff grappling with the profound loss.
