A 19-year-old man, Panashe Muchenje, has died following an incident in Balderton Lake near Newark on May 28. Mr. Muchenje, who had moved to the area from Zimbabwe approximately three years prior, was with friends when he entered the lake during warm weather.
Paramedics provided treatment at the scene, and he was subsequently transported to the hospital. Nottinghamshire Police confirmed on May 30 that he had not survived. The police indicated that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report was being prepared for the coroner.
Family members have paid tribute to Mr. Muchenje, remembering him as an energetic and loving person deeply involved in his church community. He was also a student at Nottingham College and was in the process of applying to join the RAF.
His nephew expressed the family's pain regarding the online circulation of videos and speculation about the incident, urging for their removal. He stressed that the event was an accident, acknowledging that young people's judgment can be impaired by excitement, and that his friends, who attempted to help, are also traumatized.
