A 17-year-old girl named Demi Edmunds tragically lost her life after being struck by multiple vehicles on the A4042 in Cwmbran on 12 February. Emergency services were called to the scene around 12:25 GMT, where she was pronounced dead. The opening of an inquest at Gwent Coroner's Court heard that the provisional cause of death was multiple injuries.
Earlier on the same day, Demi had discharged herself from the Grange University Hospital. She had attended the hospital the previous evening following a suspected overdose. She left the hospital accompanied by a support worker but subsequently stepped into the road from the central reservation, leading to the fatal collision.
The inquest has been adjourned until 26 November as inquiries continue. Demi's family has paid tribute to her, describing her as "funny, kind and caring" and "loved by all." Her brother Jake shared that she was "the best sister" he could have asked for, expressing hope that she is now in a better place.
